This course focuses on the main principles of the recovery of oil reservoirs and studies the various drive modes in these reservoirs (water drive mode- flexible drive mode, gas-cap drive mode- dissolved gas mode- gravity mode- and the mixed drive mode) all of which are from the point of view of mass balance, in addition to studying heterogeneity of formations as well as recovery of heavy oil reservoirs and recovery throughout horizontal wells.
1. Acquiring the students the knowledge and comprehension about fluids mobility within the formation, reservoir energies, rehydration of oil and gas wells, and recovery mechanisms at different modes;
2. Determination of the mode for the ideal operation of the formation in order to avoid rehydration of wells and to calculate productivity of wells at the different drive modes;
3. Acquiring the students the knowledge and comprehension about oil filtrate from oil formation into the producing wells and the factors determining the filtrate mode;
4. Analyzing and understanding the entire characteristics of the reservoir regarding matrix properties and the properties of fluid existing in the rock;
5. Determination of the major source of the driving energy in the reservoir and determination reasons behind reduction of oil recovery factor of formations.
